How To Eat McDonald’s For 30 Days Without Getting Fat: Day 21
Part of the plans I had laid so carefully prior to beginning to show people how to eat McDonald’s for 30 days without getting fat got wrecked today.
It turns out that not all of the items displayed on the McDonald’s Canada Nutrition Calculator Website are available at all locations across Canada.
My hope at the beginning of this journey was that I would be able to sample most, if not all of the items McDonald’s showed on that particular website.
When I went to McDonald’s tonight to order a burger and a poutine, I found out that they do not serve poutine in my area.
This is odd because poutine is such a popular dish in the Maritime provinces. Even KFC restaurants sell poutine here. I was quite disappointed.
However, I usually prepare for the eventuality that some item I want for my meal will be out of stock or not available at all. I make two possible choices before going to the restaurant.
That way, if one of the items I want is not available I have another meal option readily available to me.
It is funny to look back at all of the McDonald’s food I have eaten over the past 21 days and realize that I have not gained a single ounce, but continually lost weight instead.
This goes to show what I always say here on my blog, that any kind of food is good for you in moderation.
It does not matter what kind of food you eat to lose weight (though some food is arguably more nutritious than other food), it only matters how much you eat in total calories per day.
Weight loss is a function of how much you eat. Health is a function of what you eat. The trick is to find the right balance between these two extremes.
My Current Weight And Body Fat
- My Current Weight: 141.8 lbs
- My Current Body Fat: 17.8%
How amazing is it that I have been eating nothing but McDonald’s food for 21 days in a row and I keep setting new weight loss records for myself with each passing day?
I was genuinely shocked when I stepped onto the scale today and saw that my weight had dropped by another 1.4 lbs since yesterday.
My weight loss over the past 21 days now stands at 14.6 lbs and my body fat reading has dropped by 4.3% since I began showing people how to eat McDonald’s for 30 days without getting fat.
I can state again that this is the least I have ever weighed in my adult life. I even weighed more when I was a chubby little teenager who thought he was in good shape.
I know for sure now that I will breach the 140.0 lb mark before my marathon of showing people how to eat McDonald’s for 30 days without getting fat is finally over.
My regular diet of lean meat, vegetables and fruit is looking better and better each day. Sitting beside my wife Lyann and watching her eat all the things I really love, like fresh salads and homemade vegetable soup is torture.
The whole house gets filled with the smell of her homemade cooking and I have to wade through it when I arrive home from work.
Then I have to sit down to my one hamburger while she enjoys a full plate of delicious and varied whole foods.
I think I will deserve to put a few pounds back on when this food trial ends.
What McDonald’s Food I Ate Today
The McDonald’s food I chose to eat today was as follows:
- One McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese
Here is how my meal of McDonald’s food appeared on my plate tonight:

Here was yet another day where the volume of food on my plate looked ridiculously small when I took my daily meal pictures.
Keep in mind that this platter I have been using for my McDonald’s meals is usually filled to overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables when dinner time comes.
It is a huge adjustment to only have one item for my meal each day. The incredible thing is that this one burger and others like it from McDonald’s contains my full calorie content limit for the entire day.
This McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese was well worth ordering. This may be the best-tasting burger that McDonald’s sells.
Having the two meat patties to chew through makes eating this burger a special treat.
One thing worth noting is that it is difficult to get your mouth around this burger, even if you try squishing it down before taking a bite.
The Big Mac is easy to eat. I had no problem getting a full bite from it, but this Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese is a tough one to swallow.
I took my time eating it tonight, chewing each bite past what was necessary and thoroughly enjoyed my meal.
My total calorie intake for the day consisted of:
- One McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese – 800 calories
It really is too bad that each one of these burgers has to contain so many calories.
I know for sure that I could eat three Double Quarter Pounders with Cheese and Bacon if I put my mind to it. Then I would feel like a pig for having eaten 2400 calories in one sitting.
This burger was the only thing I ate all day, making my total calorie intake for the day equal to 800 calories.
The best thing about the Double Qaurter Pounder with Cheese and Bacon is that they put one of the cheese slices between the two meat patties and it melts to perfection.
Melted cheese is one of my favorite foods and if I can have it on a burger, so much the better.
Total Cost Of My McDonald’s Meals So Far
My bank account still has not run dry from eating at McDonald’s restaurants every day.
I have been fortunate to be eating only small meals though. If I were eating the way most people do, this experience would have cost me three times as much as it already has.
If I could go back in time, I might punch myself in the face for spending so much money on this kind of thing when I was younger.
I should have invested all the money I spent on dumb stuff like fast food back then. Things sure would be different now. I would probably own my home outright.
This line of thinking makes me glad that I only have nine more meals to buy from McDonald’s.
Here are the totals so far:

| Total Cost | $144.83 | |
Paying over $6.00 for the McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese that I ate tonight did not bother me at all because it tasted so darn good.
One of the things you learn in sales is that when there is enough value in a product, price is no longer an issue.
The McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with Bacon and Cheese is the finest burger that McDonald’s sells. As such, I would be surprised to meet anyone who regretted purchasing one.
The cost of tonight’s meal was low enough to keep my average daily cost below the $7.00 mark as well. My average daily expenditure for this food trial now stands at $6.90 per day.
This is at a level I find perfectly acceptable for an occasional visit to a restaurant, but not for a real daily budget.
I would not mind paying $12.00 – $15.00 to feed myself and my wife at McDonald’s once in a while, but doing it every day would be incredibly expensive.
Perhaps if more of the McDonald’s menu items had more value in the eyes of their customers, then price would not be such an issue in this case.
What is your favourite McDonald’s burger? Do you think it is fairly priced? Leave a comment and let me know.
Twenty-one days down, nine to go…
