30 Day Healthy Meals Weight Loss Diet 2: Day 20

April 24, 2009 by Trevor Watkinson · No Comments »»

Today was the first day during this entire second 30 Day Healthy Meals Weight Loss Diet of the year that I got to reach one of my short-term personal development and weight loss goals.

Without going into detail yet about what it was that I accomplished, let me first say that it was a long time coming.

I went through a lot of very trying days before reaching my goal.

I spend a lot of time preaching about how weight loss is one of those things that requires a supreme amount of perseverance and patience.

Anyone who has switched to a healthy way of eating and has lost weight in the process will tell you that the road to their current weight was not a smooth one.  There are always many ups and downs on any journey to weight loss success.  There are some days where your weight will inexplicably drop and others where you will be at a loss to understand why your weight has gone up so much.

The human body is an enormously complicated biological machine that scientists still have no idea how to comprehend.  There are lots of pseudo-experts who will give you very scientific reasons why your body behaves as it does, but the truth is that those experts are just as much in the dark as we are.

Science is just a bunch of people making educated guesses about what will happen.  They say educated guesses because they base their thoughts about what will happen on what they have observed happening in the past.  I could very easily form a hypothesis that since everyone who steps in front of a speeding train generally gets killed, then you will too if you step in front of one.

Yet no matter how many times we watch the same event occur under the same circumstances, the possibility exists that the outcome will be different.  There are no limits or absolutes in this universe God created.  Maybe the train will not kill you.  Maybe you will only be paralyzed.  Maybe you will be unharmed and everyone will call it a miracle without giving credit to God like they should.

Scientists do not really know anything.  They just try things and note the results.  In essence, we are all scientists.  We just choose to conduct our experiments in different laboratories, using different test subjects and different criteria for success.  I choose to conduct my experiments in the personal development and weight loss arenas using myself as the test subject or guinea pig.

The area where I experienced success today was with my short-term personal development goal for weight loss.  My weight had been keeping steady at around 152.0 lbs for most of the duration of this 30 Day Healthy Meals Weight Loss Diet, but that changed today.  I had been doing a lot of complaining recently that I could not seem to get my weight to fall back under the 150.0 lb mark like it was during my 30 Day Swanson Hungry Man TV Dinners Weight Loss Diet.

Thinking scientifically, because my weight had been holding steady at 152.0 lbs for this entire food trial, I expected it to be the same when I got up this morning.  I was basing my expectations on what I had observed in the past.  I had made no major changes to my diet other than taking the vegetables out of my soup.  I had not changed my daily calorie intake so everything should have stayed the same.

But because there are no constants in God’s creation other than God Himself, my weight did drop back under 150.0 lbs today.  I am at a loss to explain why this happened, but it may be due to the release of some stress I had been carrying around due to my recent job situation.  I can only guess as to what the real reason for my weight loss was and I am happy even though I can not explain the result.

It took twenty days for me to get back to the weight I held prior to starting this second 30 Day Healthy Meals Weight Loss Diet of the year. There were a lot of mornings where I wanted to throw my scale across the parking lot or smash it into little bits.  I would not make a very good scientist because I would constantly be breaking all of my beakers and test tubes.

Twenty days was the longest I have ever had to wait to return to my pre-free-day weight.  I had multiple points where I felt like giving up, but I stayed true to my personal development goal of getting back below 150.0 lbs and God honoured my commitment.  I guess it really is true that God helps those that help themselves.

Today’s Healthy Meal

I enjoyed my healthy meal from yesterday so much that I thought I would repeat it again this evening.  The only change I made in my meal at all was to try the Strawberry Swirl Ice Cream Cups that I bought the other day.  I had the Chocolate Swirl type with my dinner yesterday.  Both of them are delicious and they are only 120 calories each.  That makes them very easy to fit into my daily intake limit of 1000 calories.  Here is a picture of the healthy meal I ate tonight:

Knorr OXO Beef Bouillon, Fancy Lebanese Bakery Pita Bread, Kraft Reduced Fat Smooth Peanut Butter, Presidents Choice Twice The Fruit Strawberry and Rhubarb Jam, Chicken Drumsticks, Shake 'n Bake Coating Mix, Kraft Cracker Barrel Old Style Cheddar Cheese, Tossed Salad, Cucumber, Green Pepper, Tomato, Olives, Dill Pickles, Green Seedless Grapes, Red Seedless Grapes, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Kraft Calorie Wise Peppercorn Ranch Dressing, Compliments Value Ice Cream Sundae Cups

Leaving the frozen vegetables out of my soup for the second night in a row confirmed for me what I had already suspected.  I was sure that my soup was causing my terrible stomach cramps and bloating and I was right.  I must swallow a lot of air when I eat soup with a lot of vegetables in it.  It seems much better for me to enjoy my vegetables on my plate while just having broth for my soup.

In the picture of my healthy meal from this evening, we have 1 cup of Knorr OXO Beef Bouillon, 1 Fancy Lebanese Bakery Pita Bread, 3 tablespoons  of Kraft Reduced Fat Smooth Peanut Butter, 3 tablespoons of Presidents Choice Twice The Fruit Strawberry and Rhubarb Jam, 2 Chicken Drumsticks with Shake ‘n Bake Coating Mix, 30 grams of Kraft Cracker Barrel Old Style Cheddar Cheese, Tossed Salad, Cucumber, Green Pepper, Tomato, Olives, Dill Pickles, Green Seedless Grapes, Red Seedless Grapes, Ruby Red Grapefruit, 3 tablespoons of Kraft Calorie Wise Peppercorn Ranch Dressing and 1 Compliments Value Ice Cream Sundae Cup.

The calorie content associated with the healthy meal you see in the picture above is:

  • 1 cup of Knorr OXO Beef Bouillon – this bouillon does say it contains ten calories per packet, but I do not count them in with my total for the day.
  • 1 Fancy Lebanese Bakery Pita Bread – 120 calories
  • 3 tablespoons of Kraft Reduced Fat Smooth Peanut Butter – 240 calories
  • 3 tablespoons of Presidents Choice Twice The Fruit Strawberry and Rhubarb Jam – 75 calories
  • 2 Chicken Drumsticks with Shake ‘n Bake Coating Mix – 250 calories
  • 30 grams of Kraft Cracker Barrel Old Style Cheddar Cheese – 120 calories
  • Tossed Salad, Cucumber, Green Pepper, Tomato, Olives, Dill Pickles, Green Seedless Grapes, Red Seedless Grapes and Ruby Red Grapefruit -  zero calories
  • 3 tablespoons of Kraft Calorie Wise Peppercorn Ranch Dressing – 75 calories
  • 1 Compliments Value Ice Cream Sundae Cup – 120 calories

The total calorie content associated with my healthy meal from this evening was 1000 calories even, just as it was last night.  This was my total calorie intake for the entire day.

I have a habit of saving my favourite part of each meal for last.  I saved my pita bread with peanut butter and jam for last tonight, just as I did yesterday.  Who would have thought that you could include a whole pita bread with 3 tablespoons each of jam and peanut butter on it in your diet and still lose weight?

There was so much jam and peanut butter on this pita that it wanted to ooze out when I folded the bread in half.  It makes Lyann sick when she sees the jam oozing out of the bread.  My sister-in-law likes to eat a lot of jam with her bread, so at least I have one kindred spirit with me when I indulge in this treat.  Thanks Natalie!

I never felt bloated at all after finishing this meal and I am happy to report that I have been able to sleep on my stomach without discomfort for each of the past few nights.  I was having some difficulty doing so when my soup was still full of root vegetables.  I have been able to get my comfort back without really sacrificing content in my meals because I still get all my vegetables from my dinner plate.

Weight and Body Fat

This was the best part of my day.  I was sure that I would be disappointed when I stepped onto my scale this morning, but wound up getting a nice surprise.  I made sure to weigh myself three times with Lyann watching me to make sure I was not affecting the results.  I had finally dropped back down below the 150.0 lb level I had been chasing for almost three weeks.

My Salter body fat percentage scale showed me weighing in at 149.2 lbs this morning, with a body fat percentage reading of 19.9% no matter how many times I re-tested myself.  This made for an added bonus because it was also the first time in three weeks that my body fat percentage reading had fallen below 20.0% at all.  Weight and body fat percentage always rise and fall together, so even if you do not own a scale that shows you both readings, you can rest assured that if one of these numbers is falling, so is the other.

This development with my weight has me really excited about my next free day when Lyann and I are tentatively planning to have Hot Dogs and French Fries with Gravy.  I am also excited about meeting one of my personal development goals by proving once again this year that it does not matter what you eat, it only matters how much you eat if you are trying to lose weight.  And do not let me forget to mention that exercise is not necessary for weight loss.

I lost 14.0 lbs in January of this year and never even thought of exercising.  I used to weigh nearly 200.0 lbs and now I only weigh 149.2 lbs.  I accomplished this weight loss without ever exercising.  I became personally responsible for what I put in my mouth each day and you can too.  Stop exercising.  Start eating right.  Take the advice from someone who knows and has proved it in a very public way.

Summary

So I got to fulfill two of my own personal development goals today and I got back into the 140.0 – 150.0 lb range where I am at my most confident and most comfortable.  Those accomplishments made for a fantastic day.  Every day that goes by where I move forward, even in a small fashion is counted as a success.

If you still do not believe that you are capable of successful weight loss without exercise, then maybe you should go back and read my prior posts where I prove conclusively that you can indeed manage your weight through intelligent diet choices alone.

I tell people every day that I offer up all of my weight loss knowledge, experience and advice for free here on my blog.  You would be better advised to apply my advice to your own diet than to spend hundreds of dollars at a large weight loss company that has no real interest in actually curing the obesity problem in North America.  If they did cure the problem, they would be out of business.

I ask for nothing in return for all of the examples and advice that I offer here on my personal development and weight loss blog.  The only thing I actually charge is $10.00 Canadian for a copy of my quick weight loss ebook that contains all of the original charts and data from over two years ago when I lost 40.0 lbs in only 12 weeks without exercise.  The information is just as relevant today as it was back then.

Why do I charge ten dollars for my quick weight loss ebook?  Because all of the information you need to lose weight effectively has been put in a nice little package that you can download right to your computer desktop.  Yet you do not have to buy my ebook.  Everything you need to know to lose weight successfully is contained within my blog posts.  If you do not want to spend any money, then read my posts in their entirety and put my advice to work.

For those who do buy my ebook, when your jeans no longer stay up above your hips, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of my website to send me your weight loss success story.  I’ll get in touch with you and maybe feature your picture (with your pants up) and story here on my blog.  Here’s to continued weight loss success for you all!
