A Million Good Things

A million good things.  What a fantastic concept!

In my efforts to build up the personal development information on this blog, I regularly go out in search of new topics, odd stories and keen ideas that will help to inspire my writing.

Every once in a while, I come across a new article, blog post, website or blog that I cannot help mentioning here on my own blog. My faith in the latest gem I found can be seen in that it is perhaps the only topic I have blogged about and posted in all of my own blog categories in order to maximize exposure.

Today, as I was reading through the posts in the Carnival of Personal Development Edition #1, hosted by insightwriter.com, I came upon a post that really caught my eye.

The post was title was A Million Good Things and was originally posted on a-million-good-things.com.

In this post and on this website, the author has introduced a very unique and potentially very helpful idea for the masses.

The goal of the blog is laid out very clearly for its readers.  Starting on January 1, 2009 at 12:00 a.m. EST, the blog will begin posting one new good thing every half an hour for the next 57 years, until all one million good things have been posted.  The countdown clock on the site is running and my anticipation is building!

The projected end date for the posting of all one million good things is January 15, 2066.  The blog author has admitted to being only 28 years old now, which he admits will make him one month shy of turning 86 years old when his mission of posting one million good things has been achieved.

The blog owner has stated that he will continue to accept new single-sentence submissions of good things until he has one million submissions total.  So you may want to head over to his blog and get your one good thing included in his list of one million good things before it is too late!  I am sure he won’t have a problem getting submissions, so time is of the essence.

You will be reading about the young man who started this blog in the news before long, if my initial instincts about the greatness of his idea are not totally off-base.  The one million good things blog had its name registered on November 8, 2008 and the site is still just a baby for now, but it is poised for greatness!

What a fantastic idea to post one million good things!  The owner of a-million-good-things.com has stated that he started his blog in order to share his habit of thinking of just one good thing with the world.

Whenever he is down, he tries to think of just one good thing.  Since he found the idea helpful, he thought it would be a good idea to share a list of one million good things with the rest of the world.  I am in total agreement.

There are far too many times when all of us feel dejected and depressed, especially with all of the negativity in the news, our workplaces and in government and politics.  All you need to do to be depressed is pick up your local paper and read the front page.  Don’t even think about turning on the television if you want to stay happy for any length of time.

The world needs more people who are willing to contribute to the well-being of society by focusing on the many millions of good things that exist all around us in spite of the negative that seems to cloud our vision every day.

My cure for depression or feeling overwhelmed is first and foremost the hope that I carry regarding the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ, but I am not immune to the infectious good that efforts such as the one million good things website can bring into the lives of others.

You never know how what you have to say may affect someone in the present or in the future.  One thing does remain certain though: If you never speak the good things that are on your mind, they will never have a chance to impact others in the same way as they have affected you.

I highly recommend checking out a-million-good-things.com as soon as you have the chance and adding your best one-sentence good thing to the list of one million good things that will be published in the years to come.

Stumble it!

It sounds like a wonderful idea.. but I wonder how long he can truly keep it up. I hope he can handle it. Lets just hope it isn’t something that will be over in a week because it can really help people if he sticks to it.

oh by the way, great blog. I surfed over to your site and I really like it.
